Contexte et objectifs
Italian university research laboratory specialising in the mechanics of polymer materials.
It wanted a multi-purpose system capable of determining macro-mechanical criteria under different stress conditions (tension/compression and fatigue) on samples and structures.

Requirement
  • Improving understanding of deformation mechanics.
  • Measurement of deformations on polymer materials (samples and structures). Determination of poisson's ratio and Young's modulus, measurement of volume deformation.
  • Detection, monitoring and measurement of crack advance in fatigue.
Constraints
  • Accuracy of the order of a micron or less according to ISO9513 standard
  • Integration with existing equipment: Instron electromechanical machine equipped with Bluehill software and MOOG fatigue machine,
  • Data synchronisation: real-time communication of deformations measured by  video extensometer to machine software : Bluehill to enable user to have all  data perfectly synchronised in a single software package and to facilitate calculations of modulus, Poisson's ratio, deformation at break, etc. 
Solution
The FVX version XY, 7Markers and fatigue systems meet these conditions.
